Summer Recap - Sparkle City Clothing catwalk photo shoot

Lately I've had the chance to work with Sparkle City Clothing on their promotional and catalog images.  This summer they came out with their new snapbacks baseball caps and Catwalk tee-shirts.  We want a ruff, gritty, urban, location so we decided to do the shoot right at the catwalk that is right on the new shirts.

"Sparkle City Clothing Company was founded by four good friends whose love for their city grew into something much greater than just a place to call home. Central Falls, once a major proponent of the great American Industrial Revolution has seen its glory fade in recent years. With an influx of migrant workers brought to the states by former textile mill owners to provide for their families, Central Falls was once a city to be proud of, filled with rich culture, pride and a much needed get it done attitude. After much dismay in its recent years due to corrupt politicians, run down business, bad politics this once most densely populated city in the United States has a new reason to shine, a new reason to sparkle once more. Central falls & its “Sparkle City” fame are becoming relevant again, but this time for all the right reasons. Recently climbing its way out of Rhode islands first bankrupt city deficit, due to new transparency in the political realm it’s reclaiming its spot amongst the states top cities. Sparkle city clothing also known as S.C.C is looking to provide a fresh urban look to the city whose motto is “a city with a bright future”. We as local citizens are looking to turn things around and produce something for not only the city to be proud of but the state as a whole. Lets show RI and the country what a good comeback looks like."

Clean Central Falls - 4th Annual "Taking Pride in Our City" Earth Day Event

Earth day was 3 days ago and to celebrate it the City of Central Falls held their 4th Annual "Taking Pride in Our City" - Clean Central Falls Event on Saturday.  I have had the privilege to photograph 3 out of the 4 of these events the city has had and I'm always moved by how many people take time out of their personal lives to unit and help make Central Falls a cleaner place.

My favorite part of the event is at the end after everyone has finished cleaning, they all head back to the meeting point to return the gear; broom, rakes, gloves, etc, and as they return the items I have them step aside so I can crate a portrait of them.  Then I use the portraits to make a collage of the all participants.  This years collage is at the bottom of this posting and here is a link where you can see last years blog posting with the 2013 collage.

This year there was over 150 volunteers.

A lot of local businesses help donate the materials needed for the event; also the city and recreation department was awarded a $1,000 grant to help cover expenses.
This is DJ Max Major's 4th year donating his time and equipment.
Central Falls Park and Recreation Director, Joshua Giraldo.
Central Falls Firefighter talk to the volunteers about staying safe while they clean.
City of Central Falls Mayor James A. Diossa thanks the crowd for their help.

Photography opens the doors into Cogswell Tower.

Ever since I was younger, my cousins, friends, and I always wondered about this humongous tower that glommed over us as we played on the swings, or climbed the boulders around what we knew as "Jenks Park Tower." But what we really wanted to do was get in side and explore it.  With time as we grew older, the tower became a distant site as we drove by it. A site that is visible from anywhere in Central Falls, became the park near City Hall. But in reality, it was my childhood fantasy to finally make it into what is actually the Cogswell Tower. Ironically, I was able to visit the Eiffel Tower in Paris, France before a chance was finally presented to enter Jenks Park Tower in my hometown.

I have heard from many photographers say that photography is a passport that helps you meet interesting people and gets you into places you have always dreamed about.  This past Saturday, I got to use my "photographic passport" to get into Cogswell Tower. A fellow artist and friend, Bruce Kaplan- asked me if I would like to join him and a small group of people to take an excursion into the tower and capture our experience with my camera. Without a doubt I said yes, and could not wait until I could cross something of off my bucket list and fulfill one of my child hood dreams. Below are some of the images I was fortunate to capture. Hope you enjoy.
